Flight Card

We had been tracking a micro-site not too long ago called: Boarding Pass/Fail by Tyler Thompson (Creative Director of squarespace.com). It sparked much dialog in the design community about the lack of regard for information design on important things we use in our culture, (e.g. flight boarding passes). About a month ago several students came across a new “coming soon” site that advertised an iPhone app that continued on the same concept of redesigning the boarding pass. Although the app is not a boarding pass itself, it acts as a better form of communication for the traveler and the people needing to know the traveler’s flight itinerary.
Finally after much anticipation the site is up and seems to have marvelous potential. Flight Card by Sylion is another step toward a culture that understands the practical functions of design.
Death to visual trash!
Ryan Freerer

“Ryan Feerer is a designer, illustrator, and educator. He enjoys making good things for good people. If you want to be one of those good people; please email Ryan at the address above.”
Between typography and illustration, Ryans arsenal is very diverse. A student told me about him last year and gave me one of his cards. It’s sat just below my monitor in plain sight for a full year. The card alone commands respect thus earning his place on the Command+Z Blog-O-Fame.

Oh Benevolent Design
Design has become such a powerful engine for assisting communities and people in times of need. With the web and social media networks like twitter and facebook, assistance can become mobilized and spread across the nation in a matter of a day (or less). Below is good example of this. As many of you know, Central Texas is battling wildfires that have already claimed around 800 homes. The below website was launched in order to begin and assist in spreading the “community” aid response. Nifty are the times we live in.

Steve Jobs Resigns from CEO of Apple. The impacts that will have in the future for one of the slickest line of products in the world are still unknown. I think, at least for myself and people within my circle of professionals, we admire the work Steve and his staff have done because they gave and continue to give us (creative practitioners) well designed, very functional and extremely fun to use products. It is my hope that Apple continues to be a leading company in innovation and design.
Email Inspiration
The email inspiration concept is simple, we send you one email per day everyday. Pretty simple huh! No big sales pitches or product launches, just one image to help inspire your designs and get your creative juices flowing.
