Flight Card →
We had been tracking a micro-site not too long ago called: Boarding Pass/Fail by Tyler Thompson (Creative Director of squarespace.com). It sparked much dialog in the design community about the lack of regard for information design on important things we use in our culture, (e.g. flight boarding passes). About a month ago several students came across a new “coming soon” site that...

Ryan Freerer
“Ryan Feerer is a designer, illustrator, and educator. He enjoys making good things for good people. If you want to be one of those good people; please email Ryan at the address above.” Between typography and illustration, Ryans arsenal is very diverse. A student told me about him last year and gave me one of his cards.  It’s sat just below my monitor in plain sight for a...

Oh Benevolent Design
Design has become such a powerful engine for assisting communities and people in times of need.  With the web and social media networks like twitter and facebook, assistance can become mobilized and spread across the nation in a matter of a day (or less).   Below is good example of this.  As many of you know, Central Texas is battling wildfires that have already claimed around 800 homes. The below...

UPDATE YOUR BROWSER PLEASE! →
The modern web experience is drastically changing at a very rapid pace.  Well…..in most areas.  One thing that is still very constant in the www,  BROWSER INCONSISTENCY!  IE being the worst to play nice with new changes to the web, browsers are greatly affecting the design industry, companies budgets for creating websites and most importantly the end user.  So far, the best way to get the...

The Shape of Design →
I think this is the best idea ever. If you know of Frank Chimero, his Illustrations & his ideas. You’re probably pretty stoked on this.  Last Semester actually we were trying to get Frank to come talk. Obviously, He’s been busy. So within 48 hours of posting this short film he raised $28,000. His goal was 27,000. As of now it’s nearly doubled.

Yesterday, Comedy Central released a brand new logo and in my opinion, have done a really great job. Rebranding has become a hot new topic for people interested in design, and for better or worse, is being scrutinized more and more. Their old logo has been in use since they want on the air in 1991 and hasn’t changed in its near 20 year history. The thing is, it’s been pretty goofy looking this...

This is my printing press. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My press is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My press, without me, is useless. Without my press, I am useless. I must ink my press true. I must print more beautifully than new technology that is trying to kill me. I must ink them before they pixelate me. I will. Studio On Fire is a...

Great short film starring Ryder Strong (yes, Boy Meets World). The only thing that I can find on the director of this short is that his name is Dan and he works with the motion firm OH,HELLO. The Story, the shots, the edit are great.  Anyways, what a great way to spend 15 minutes of your life. Damn sure is better than some the crap that people watch on CBS.

“Orion House” is a beautiful film written, directed, & edited by Christopher Hewitt. I wonder how long he had the idea of making this film and how long he had to wait for a solar eclipse.  Christopher has been around for a while he also did the OFFF NYC Title sequence in 2007. He also directed the Canon Pixma color video a few posts back that Alfredo recommended. This is also the...

I’m not too sure who to name first but this is the new video “the suburbs” from Arcade Fire and Spike Jonze. And what a tremendous video it is. It’s the kind of video that cannot be ingested in one sitting, or summed up in a single sentence. Under the ever-encroaching shadow of some phantom military force, a group of teens is transformed, from skinny-limbed, free-spirited...

Gridulator →
Tell Gridulator your layout width and the number of columns you want, and it’ll spit back all the possible grids that have nice, round integers. Just the thing for pixel-based designfolk. There are inline previews, courtesy of the canvas element, and when you’re all set Gridulator can crank out full-size PNGs for you, ready for use in your CSS, Photoshop docs, or what have you. And there’s full...

Twin Lens Llc. is a couple who specialize in wedding photography; not just in the traditional sense of wedding photos but the process of the entire day of a wedding. Their process is more of documenting very candid moments that truly express the excitement and passion of weddings. Very awesome work. If you are getting married sometime soon you might want to look into them.  Their album layouts...

Saman Keshavarz is a 24 old writer/director from Pasadena California and this kid is tearing it up. The video above is the won Best Music Video at the 2010 SXSW Festival. The video was so well written, edited, directed I had to see more. This is where I found his newer pieces of work the 3 part video series from Russ Chimes-Midnight Club EP. These are a must watch.  If that is not enough to keep...
